Launching Marion St | February Newsletter

Welcome back to my quarterly newsletter. The year is already taking off and I’m excited to tell you about a few of the creative projects now underway.

Marion St Launch Event

You’re invited to an evening of music, art and poetry to celebrate the launch of Marion St! Six months ago, our first single emerged into the world. This month, we're officially launching our little worship collective with a live event.

Join us at 7:30pm on Friday 23rd February at Annandale Creative Arts Centre. We'll have support by some incredible songwriters from Newtown Mission, as well as poetry, visual art and a set by the full Marion St band. We will be performing tracks from our first two EPs, Whole and Calling, as well as some unreleased songs by me from our upcoming EP!

If you’re looking for worship music that is affirming of bodies and of LGBTQIA+ people, that cares deeply about our planet, and that offers hope while being honest about doubt, this event is for you.

Tickets are $20 and they're on sale right now. It would be lovely to share this sacred space with you.

Before then, a smaller iteration of Marion St will be performing a couple of songs at Pancake Pride next Tuesday.

An Embodied Faith

In December, a series of my prose poems were published in Insights Magazine’s Christmas edition. what child is this reimagines parts of the Christmas story through the lens of queer embodiment and can be found here on page 22.

I have also recently had the opportunity to review one of my new favourite books, This Here Flesh by Cole Arthur Riley of Black Liturgies. It’s a deeply moving book about embodied spirituality, human dignity and the stories that make us.

Reflective Writing Workshop

It was wonderful to share creative space with 14 people in December who participated in my Advent Reflective Writing Workshop, both in person and online. Here’s what a few people said about the workshop:

“This was a thoughtful and well-led workshop, with an encouraging and inclusive vibe and great prompts to get me writing and reflecting.” – Alison

“Gabi creates a rich, relaxed and beautifully held creative space to write, reflect, connect and express our inner worlds."  Lorinda

“It was such a blessing to carve out this space of time in (what can be) a frantic season, to pause, listen and reflect.” – Sally

Stay tuned for details about future workshops!
