Welcome to my September Newsletter. I couldn't wait another month to update you because too much is happening!

Toolkits: Poetry

I am delighted to have been selected for this program run by Express Media. For the next three months I will learn from the incredible Maddie Godfrey alongside nine other nerds all about the craft of poetry, in a much more practical and specific way than creative writing courses were at uni. I have been applying to this course for several years, so it's wonderful to finally be a part of it. We had our first online class last week and I am already having a lovely time!

National Young Writers Festival

This festival begins in Newcastle on Thursday night. It's a wonderful annual gathering of Australia's young literary minds, exchanging ideas and building community across our industry. I've been a NYWF regular for about ten years now, and this year I am not just an audience member but a performer! You can catch me reading poems streamed to YouTube this Saturday evening, as part of the Trans and Gender Diverse Writers Showcase at 5pm, and the Toolkits: Poetry Showcase at 7pm.

Songs in Progress

In mid-September, Christian Students Uniting held our second music workshop day, on the theme "songs in progress". Songwriters Helen Wright, Mikali Anagnostis and I spoke to those gathered about our creative processes, and it was wonderful to share ideas about the different ways we each approach creativity. Two and half new worship songs were then created that afternoon, which was a joy to witness!

Website Update

I have updated my website with a brand new url (gabicadenhead.com.au), some new photos and a more simplified layout, plus new pronouns!
